what's new

Today's Westport Rivers Garden Club meeting was on the strange side. The guest speakers were "The Worm Ladies of Charlestown". Apparently, business is booming and they've been written up in The Providence Journal and other local RI papers. Who knew?

June 3, 2004

Today is the 6th anniversary of our moving into The Ridge.

our spiffy new cowl vents are now installed aboard Azor

Cindy has found yet another way to make retirement even less difficult. She now places her grocery shopping order on-line at Lees Market and it's placed in our trunk after lunch.

First order was today and the drop was scheduled for 12:30. We dutifully arrived to find the loading zone dark and the door locked. Ten minutes later, someone came and tried to unlock the door. They couldn't. So the cart was pushed back through the store and out the entrance to our car. They waived the usual shopping fee. We will try it again.

Cindy's daughter, Kelly, and her fiancee, Joe, in front of the house they just bought!

Our front gardens needed a new look.

Includes moving the brick walkway, planting holly bushes and more perennials.

Paul and Derrick begin the job while Beth (not pictured) masterminds the project.

And, while the area is torn up, Webster decides we should know the exact location of the well.
It's kinda difficult to see in the photo what's really happening in this project but, Webster Enterprises is busy at work on Azor pulling up floor boards and stringing propane lines through the boat for our new heating system. It'll take a couple of long days to complete the mission.

The 'Pond Masters' have opened our pond for the season. It's nice to have the waterfall gently trickling again.

Bet you're wondering ... why the lamb picture? Cindy's sister, Wendy, and her family have become a foster home for two little lambs. Pretty funny since they live in a neighborhood and have a giant Bernese Mountain dog. Anyway, they cleared out their shed, put up this temporary fence and bottle feed these little guys every 4 hours.

Cindy helped with the feedings during her visit this past weekend.

(photo taken with Motorola camera/phone - not bad)

Tom's daughter, Jessamyn, and her boyfriend, Greg, stopped by for a couple of days on their way to Washington, DC. Jess is giving a talk on Sunday then they'll return to their place in Vermont.

Decker's always in the action.

Greg's particularly smiling since he just finished his first year at law school.

Decker and his friends at Eric's monthly "Yappy Hour" party

May 17

Eric is the owner of American Canine of Westport where Decker's been trained, kenneled and goes to day care sometimes. This way, he gets exercise and socialization with other dogs. Eric's very cool. He planned this event for the parents of the dogs to meet their play friends. He even had snacks, beer, and wine.

May 4: We just returned from 10 days on Grand Bahama Island where we stayed at Old Bahama Bay in West End. More soon.

Cindy's been traveling around again. We're a bit behind updating our site. Soon there will be photos of her trip to Sanibel Island, FL to attend the 61st annual seashell show. The trip was a great way to gather shells for more sailors' valentines. Tom would also like to post more "projects" photos and stories.

Cindy visited with family from Michigan who were in the area for cousin Jeff (57 years old) to run the Boston Marathon. He finished in just over 4 hours in 85 degree heat.

And, another great time at East Hill Farm.

At the pond, we find the goldfish have survived just fine over the winter.

New projects abound with Springtime and we decide it's time to get the yard in better shape.

Paul and his crew are workin' hard each day cutting out over-grown and dead stuff.
