It's fall but, time to think ahead ...

Beth recommended we add color to the property for springtime. Cindy had planted a few hundred bulbs years ago but, most were dug up by some kind of animals (maybe Decker, too?). So, Cindy and Beth sat down one afternoon to peruse the catalogs and picked out about 10 different varieties of daffodils, iris, muscari, and lillies.

After making her list, Beth announced she had ordered 5,000 bulbs! Wow! Our lawns can accommodate this many but, it's an amazing number.

Today, Beth, Addie, and Carol began the planning and planting process.

Too bad some of our trees didn't make it through last winter's rath.

Tom wanted a communications center where all the electronics could be charged and ready for action. So here's what was built.

It appears that our backyard, or a little further north, was the birthplace of the Macomber turnip. They are around these parts for about a month in the fall. If anyone would like to try one, we can probably arrange to ship you one. In town, Lees Market sells them.

We traveled to Vermont to visit Tom's daughter, Jessamyn, this past weekend.

She works at the Rutland Free Library and lives in Bethel with her boyfriend, Greg. He's studying at the Vermont Law School.

Here's a photo of Jess coming out to greet us at the back of her landlady's wonderful Victorian house.

Tom fell in love with Shamus, the resident house dog

Anyone for fog skiing? We drove to the Killington ski area a few times and this is what we saw.

We're kicking ourselves for not taking more pictures on this trip.

Watched for moose and deer but, they were shy. Jess and Greg saw a bear on their way home after eating dinner with us one night.

lots of great mountain, cloud, and leaf scenes

We attended the United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis, MD this past weekend. It's the oldest and largest sailboat show in the U.S. and we've been at least 3 times. There's over 200 large sailboats in the water for boarding and dreaming about. No, we did not buy another boat!

We boarded the "Arabella" and will be looking for her in Buzzard's Bay next season.

The windows project continues @ The Ridge. The cottage windows and doors just weren't worth re-painting. In keeping with our maintenance free theme we decide to replace them. Bob's beginning with the upstairs section. We'll also shingle the west and north facing walls.

Our nephew, Matthew, turned 14 recently. Auntie Cindy and Matt had never been to a polo match. We tail-gated, watched the event, and had a great birthday celebration together. We think we should have seasons tickets next year for the Portsmouth series.

Score for the final match of the season: USA 13, Spain 10. Great fun!

thundering action!

Last month, we visited our friends, Dick and Susan, in western Mass. Before departure, we equipped our new Element with Garmin's iQue3600. Works like a charm even navigating over the back roads. Talks us through upcoming turns - we refer to her as "Lucy".

Cindy's always wanted to visit The Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge, MA. We were here for a couple of nights to celebrate our anniversary.
