Observations of Fall in Westport:

  • The hummingbird feeders are empty - we'll miss the little guys buzzing around.
  • Tourists have gone. Traffic, restaurant service, and grocery trips have greatly improved.
  • Piping Plovers and lifeguards have left the beaches.
  • The weather is spectacular - hardly any fog and pleasant temperatures.
  • Boats are being hauled for winter storage.
  • Fishing remains active in the Westport River and along the coast.

We took a trip to the western part of MA and visited our friends, Dick and Susan. They've moved into a wonderful original antique house.

Also visited The Berkshires on the way home to celebrate our anniversary.

Cindy learned to make sailors' valentines by taking a course at Southcoast Learning Network in New Bedford, MA.

Each month, New Bedford hosts AHA (Art, History, Architecture) nights for the public.

Cindy exhibited her sailors' valentines at this week's event.

NOAA Weather Statement as of 5:00 am EDT on September 4, 2004:
"... High surf advisory and associated rip currents to impact southern New England beaches through Labor Day...

Southerly swells from Hurricane Frances continue on the waters of southern New England this morning. Buoys south of Marthas Vineyard and Block Island are reporting south swells of 5 to 7 ft. These swells are producing dangerous rip currents along the South Coast of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. In addition... these rip currents have already resulted in the closure of Horseneck Beach in Westport, Massachusetts."
